Thanks, I killed my new submission also. It's not technically a dup I suppose, but there's no need for it. Guess my searching skill aren't as good as I thought...I didn't think to look for it under Harrier since it was an A6.

Sorry - your previous post was *discarded because it was a duplicate of this post.

[edit] damn, I didn't mean to discard that last one, since it's not really a dupe. I'll get dag or lucky to reinstate it or promote it back myself when I get a power point back.

I know, what's wrong with me? I just hated seeing that as my top video. I chucked that one and the "tossing salad". Funny I slipped rank by 20 slots and still haven't gotten back! Feel free to resubmit either, they're good for at least 20 votes each, just don't promote mine!

Looks like someone already took care of it.

I accidentally discarded this video, referencing a different dupe that was discarded. Could you reinstate please?

Thank you for the vote. This on started with me begging so it never went to the alley. cheers!

In reply to this comment by jonny:
The animation is decent, but the music is definitely not my style. You caught me in a good mood this morning, though. Usually, I would not have voted for it. It's got some quality, but doesn't breech my vote threshold - would I have sifted this or am I glad that someone else did? Good luck with it - looks like it might end up a beggar.

Thanks for your comments. You make some really valid points here. I just want to say that I know many agnostics who are extremely arrogant and feel superior to religious people because they are "more logical" and for other reasons. The pure ideology, before it is skewed by its practitioners, is good stuff and not inherently arrogant. And neither is religion.

To show my own arrogance: I think that moral relativism is ridiculous in every way and that the ideology is devastated in every way by basic logic, but you can believe what you like.

Societal control structure? Like gender, family, education, agnosticism, and a million other things? Yep, I guess you could say it is. And thank goodness there is something to prevent moral relativists from assuming free reign.

In reply to this comment by jonny:
I'm not talking about political correctness. I'm talking about humility, one of Jesus' fundamental lessons. Basically all organized religions have that aspect of arrogance to some degree. But no, I would not agree that any and all ideologies share that characteristic. There are plenty of irreligious philosophies which espouse exactly the opposite. Agnosticism for one. Science for another (though many scientists do not).

I definitely disagree that the notion of One Truth is philosophically sound. I don't consider the term "moral relativist" an insult. But that is an entirely different conversation.

I wasn't trying to pick on Mormons necessarily - that just happened to be the video in question. I pretty much view all organized religions with the same disdain. They purport to be avenues to truth, when in fact they are little more than societal control structures, designed to concentrate power in the hands of a few and keep the rest in line. That this is done in the name of salvation and couched in moral teaching only makes it worse. At least with authoritarian governments, for example, people aren't generally blind to their purpose (North Korea being a notable exception).

I see where you're coming from, but I dunno. It just seems like people expect religion to be politically correct when it just cannot be. Wouldn't you agree that there is always a certain amount of self-righteousness to ANY ideology, whether religious or not?

As far as LDS's are concerned, they have the (philosophically sound) notion that there is only one truth. They also believe that they have it. All religions believe that, they just don't know it, and they don't have to deal with the controversy as Mormons do.

Contrary to popular belief, the CJSLDS is one of the few religions that highly discourages speaking badly of other churches and beliefs, and they believe that all people, with the exception of the very vilest of sinners, will be saved from physical death and inherit a kingdom of eternal glory.

The whole missionary attitude would probably be the biggest thing. Despite repeated references to being non-judgmental in the bible, missionaries in general (and Mormons in particular) seem to have an attitude that is rather negative to those who don't convert. Hypocrisy was not really the right word to use. It's probably fair to say that I'm more irked by the arrogance of those who claim not only to know the mind of God, but to be the only ones who can convey the message accurately or with authority.

In reply to this comment by thepinky:
I'm curious to know what you considered hypocritical.

In reply to this comment by jonny:
I like your posts btw - I was torn between up or downvoting the mormon vid. On the one hand, it is an interesting view inside the church; on the other hand, it is an incredible piece of hypocrisy (even in terms of internal consistency with LDS).
