I've often wondered that myself. He hasn't aged because presumably he was in stasis. And I think that the whole "humanity's Saviour" comes from the probable stories coming from him going to Xen and stopping the alien invasion. Good question on the whereabouts, though.

You have some good points there MG. Perhaps everyone is too busy trying to fight of the combine to worry where Gordon has been for a few years. In dystopian societies people probably go missing all the time.

One thing that bothers me though is if Freeman was put in stasis immediately after killing the Nihilanth in Xen, then how does everyone know he saved the world?

Wow, that's a good one. I was only 9 when the first one came out, and was too easily frustrated by the puzzles, so I gave up after only ten minutes of playing. Did anyone (meaning the other scientists) see him go into Xen?

[Edit]: I know! Maybe the Vortiguants know about it, and told everyone. Still, nobody questions why Gordon isn't in his late forties, like he should be.

Ah, I'd forgotten about the Vortiguants. Yeah they're all throughout HL2 talking about the 'Free-Man'. Still doesn't explain the age gap. The only reference to it I can remember is Dr Vance saying a throwaway line 'you haven't changed a bit'.
Are you sure it's decades between games? I thought it was only about 4 years?
Maybe I'm going to much into it. I'm sure it'll all be explained in HL3.

Yep, the storyline on the Ep1 website confirms that. Check out the first line in the second paragraph.

Even if they do explain it all in HL3, it'll still be very silly. "Oh yea, Gordon, we knew all about the whole stasis thing, but we decided not to mention it to heighten the dramatic suspense."

Well the vortigaunts were liberated by Freeman, and have spent the ten years since then evangelizing about him to earth's resistance forces. To the average member of the resistance, Gordon Freeman is legendary as the only human or vortigaunt who has gone up against anything that came out of the portals and won.
