Herzog Zwei, ftw. I'd love to see an update.

10. Freelancer: I Bittorented the game a few years back in the day, found it in the bargain bin a month back. Need to reinstall after my next reformat. Wonderful, wonderful crack. And I agree that the main story is not a big draw. Good/wise players can do it in 10-15 hrs if that. Finding the ****sploiler**** monkey and robot planets ****spoiler**** is the true test of how far you've come in the game.

3- Beyond Good & Evil: Now getting a sequel. Busted off the list.

When I was clicking the link I could only think of one game I wanted to see there, and guess what's the first game I see when I scroll down... XIII.

Psychonauts beat out Skies of Arcadia, Rez, and Beyond Good and Evil?

Who the crap comes up with these pathetic little lists?

Someone that's played Psychonauts.

I can only wish it had a sequel.

Several of these had "spiritual" sequels.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are actually in the same universe, if not really very related games. The developer actually called Colossus a "prequel" of Ico.

Great find, indeed, I love these kinds of lists.

And I'd gladly pay even a $150 for a fully-developed Freelancer 2, the original was such a blast of a spacy experience. I advise you get it even today as it's space graphics and FX are nowhere near as outdated as any other game of.. what, was it 2003? And to be fair I don't get what anyone's complaining - the storyline was just as epic and polished as that of Mass Effect.

TERRA NOVA BITCHES

And some of those games should never have sequels, this includes Blade Runner, Grim Fandango and any other great adventure game listed there.

They missed that incredibly great game from the early 90s called "way out" or "out there" or something like that.

The one where the guy is transported to a parallel world and befriends an ape that helps him on his journey. Kind of a side-scroller, but with a lot of style and fun.

Are you thinking of "Out of This World"? (aka "Another World") That game did have a sequel: Heart of the Alien, for the Sega CD.

"3- Beyond Good & Evil: Now getting a sequel. Busted off the list."
That was announced May 2008, about a year after this article was written, I suspect.

I saw the list and it was interesting to say the least... I agree with the top 10... pyschonauts was actually a really good game and its a game that truly deserves a sequel... though Beyond good & evil is a good runner up...

Of those I've only played Sacrifice and Grim Fandango. Sacrifice was pretty good, certainly had its moments, but Grim Fandango is all kinds of awesome. Originality just oozed from it.

As much as I loved Colossus, I really need to get off my ass and find myself a copy of Ico.

Wow, as someone who's played computer games most of the time since 1993, I haven't played any of the games on that list.

Starcraft was one of the best sequel-less games for a decade, till blizzard announced the sequel (which probably won't be out till 2010).

Some of these games are the classics they are because they didn't come out of a sequel machine.

Quite a few of these games should not have sequels. Some because a sequel could only fail to meet expectations, some because they were downright terrible to begin with, and others because there's just no place for one.

  • Uniracers - "Uniracers 2" could be a crappy flash game, at best. Leave it alone.
  • Red Dead Revolver - Not only should there never, ever be a sequel, but I hope a few people lost their jobs for creating the original.
  • Psi-Ops - A $50 gimmick. By all means, reuse some of the ideas, but no sequel, please.
  • Tech Romancer - I'm greatly skeptical of any game, show, movie, etc with a title consisting of randomly chosen unrelated English words. I'm looking at you Guilty Gear, Melty Blood, Sailor Moon, One Piece Gear Spirit, Groove Adventure Rave Fighting Live, etc.
  • Call of Cthulhu - 3 sequels were planned, but the dev went out of business.
  • Blade Runner - I'd rather see a modern remake than a sequel. A new story in the universe.
  • The Last Express - Leave it alone.
  • MULE - The inspiration for an entire genre as well as influencing others. It doesn't need a true sequel. Also, I think the marketability of a game about mechanical equine is pretty poor these days.
  • Rampart - See Uniracers
  • Giants: Citizen Kabuto - Inexplicably absent from the list.
