Hm. Well, if the motive isn't there, and he's not going to gain voters from this, but might actually lose some, then maybe he's just trying something new to politicians: being upfront and honest?

I vote for dumb move. I wasn't aware that the government funded religions. I'm probably one of the few religious people who would be opposed to this idea of government funding for religions, especially if there are strings attached. Simply put, it would open the door to control of one being placed over the other.

I think Obama's seeing political advantage in being honest about his position on this topic.

I think he's wrong about the political advantage, and the topic. I'm with MrConrads, separation of church and state is pretty black and white. Giving religious organizations state funding is pretty much against that.

I like suggestion from Olbermann's guest about the separate non-profit.
