American News Project: On two consecutive days, hearings conducted by the Senate Judiciary Committee were suspended when Republicans invoked the rarely used "two hour rule" that states no hearing can run more than two hours. ANP cameras were covering both hearings as part of ongoing stories and were able to capture the latest moves in the political chess match both parties are currently waging on Capitol Hill.

Damn the NeoCons.. this is just WRONG!!!!!

Here is a prime example of how the NeoCons subvert justice.

Wow. They can invoke those rules anonymously? Talk about transparency in gouvernment.

It's just unforgivable.

Yeah the first thing we have to do is stop the anonymity of objections. The next thing would be to extend the default limit to something more reasonable like 6 hours.

This is barely tangentialy related to the War on Terror and the terrible channel was created for something else.

Here is the poop about what went on:
Senator McConnel, the minority leader, invoked the two-hour rule because he was dissatisfied with the progress of confirmation hearings for circuit court judges. The Majority had promissed to confirm more judges than it had so the Senator threw what amounts to a parlimentary hissy fit and trying to slow down senate business in general. It wasn't limited to the testimony on torture that was to be given on the 10th of June. And this rule has been around a long time and been used before by both parties.

And what exactly can we do? If you have ANY ideas, please let me know, because I will be absolutely ecstatic to be doing something besides sitting here stewing in my own anger.

Seriously -- I'm from Chicago, so I hear nothing but incompetent bickering and political maneuvering for no other purpose than to screw other politicians over. The government that is supposed to serve the people has failed at EVERY LEVEL from the national right down to local affairs. Politicians at all levels have made a point to completely ignore the will of the people and to look out only for their own interests.

What am I supposed to do here? What PRECISELY will make any difference at all? Writing letters to government officials only works when they aren't completely overruled by overzealous executive branches and collusive agreements on both sides. I'm not rich, so I don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend on corporate interests or lobbyists. I can't exactly call these people up and yell, and with our governments ignoring even the various voices of the media, protesting doesn't do a whit of good.

I'm irate and I'm completely out of ideas. I would love to hear some.

People, wake up. The democrats are just as much part of the problem as the repiblicans are. Your two-party bullshit is blurring your vision, seriously. Blame the republicans for making it happen and the democrats for letting it happen.

People love to say "it's both parties, really!"

Democrats aren't guiltless, but when one party uses deceit, and then later brute political force to enact a series of radical and destructive policies that turn a balanced budget, growing middle class, peace, and global respect into huge deficits, a vanishing middle class, endless war, and near universal scorn, we shouldn't say "well, they're both equally at fault."

There will be a lot of effort to unseat the Democrats who continue to acquiesce to unilateral war, or violations of civil rights, coming from the party activists.

There were no dissenting Republican senators, and a very few in the House. Many Republicans in both houses are unrepentant still, and proudly proclaim the wondrous success the last 8 years have been. Their party activists strongly encourage this, and curse McCain for what small moderation he's had in the past.

We do need to change the two party system, but given where we are today, throwing up your hands and saying "both parties suck" doesn't seem like a very sound strategy for making things better.

Don't overgeneralize.. not all Republicans are bad.. just like not all Democrats are good.

The NeoCons and their supporters are not against using unethical tactics.
The NeoLiberals (what I call the polar opposite to the NeoCons) have a hidden agenda as well and it's not that far off from what the NeoCons are trying to attain. Not everything is black and white.

Oh? Do you really need your gun right now?

Americans use guns over 2 million times a year in self-defense, and during most of those incidents not a single shot is fired. I'd be surprised if you've ever heard this fact before this post.

The reasons "why" I or anyone else may or may not own a gun are none of the guvmint's business.

Is this the gun law proposal that you are referring to? Yea she's a real fascist...

Most liberals look for jackboots or other obvious indicators when it comes to fascism. That's why they miss the whole we're-stealing-your-freedom-for-your-own-good health and environmental sneak attacks.

As opposed to the we're-stealing-all-your-rights-because-you-might-be-a-terrorist sneak attack? Oh wait that's for our own good too. I'm sick of having my "baggage" checked by TSA. I'm sick of knowing that most of my email and telephone conversations are monitored by CARNIVORE. I'm sick of the heightened sense of fear mongering and knee-jerk reaction-ism that is turning our country into a bunch of cowering, obese, media-holics.

Let's go buy some distilled water, sit in our bunker and oil our guns. WTF

Who are these NeoLiberals, and what are they after?

The term neoliberal already has an established meaning, and it's the economic portion of the Republican/NeoCon philosophy.

The DLC wanted to move the party to the right, but never that far.

Someone needs to be more careful when quoting. I never suggested assassination, bombing, or uprisings -- gorillaman did, and I seriously despise people who try to put words into my mouth.

[Edit: Attribution corrected. Thanks!]

Besides, I agree with you -- Assassination will only make the Republican party stronger as the senator will become a martyr and the war against terror will become much more important, not to mention that it's a despicable act. Bombing a government building has roughly the same effect, except that it has the potential to take more lives and is even less politically relevant. I cannot think of a more useless endeavor than attempting an armed uprising against one of the best trained and most technologically advanced militaries in the world.
